The separatist leader of Georgia’s breakaway region of Abkhazia resigned on Tuesday after days of unrest, in which the opposition and its supporters seized key government buildings and at least 14 people were injured in clashes with police.

Aslan Bzhania, the leader of the Georgian breakaway region of Abkhazia, resigned on Tuesday following days of violent unrest.

Protesters stormed the parliament of the Russian-backed breakaway Georgian region of Abkhazia on Friday and opposition politicians demanded the resignation of the self-styled president over an unpopular investment agreement with Moscow.
