President Donald Trump has tapped California GOP rising star Bill Essayli to be the chief prosecutor in nation's most populous federal court district.

The attorney general has selected Riverside County Assemblymember Bill Essayli — a rising and controversial Republican voice — to serve as interim U.S. attorney for L.A. and surrounding areas.

A California State Assembly committee killed two bills on Tuesday that would have restricted transgender athletes from playing on girls' sports teams.
