Alphabet Inc.’s Chrome browser could go for as much as $20 billion if a judge agrees to a Justice Department proposal to sell the business, in what would be a historic crackdown on one of the world’s biggest tech companies.

The Justice Department will soon request a federal judge order Google to sell its Chrome web browser, according to Bloomberg, marking the latest development in an antitrust case against Google after a judge ruled this summer the tech giant illegally maintained a search monopoly.

"Kanter’s fantastical remedies like Chrome divestiture and AI opt-outs have no connection to the Justice Department’s original case, and requiring Google to share data with rivals will only make Google search worse for consumers," Kovacevich said, predicting the proposed remedies won't "hold up in court.”
