Fireworks, objects and missiles were aimed at the public, officers and traffic with chaos breaking out in Niddrie, Calder Road, Gracemount and Moredun - terrifying locals.

Dozens of people have been arrested, and many more have been charged following “significant” disorder across the country on Bonfire Night. Police Scotland have said their criminal investigations into disorder have begun after large groups of youths threw fireworks and other projectiles at officers,

Police Scotland said ‘officers in Edinburgh responded to various incidents of youth disorder in Niddrie, Sighthill and Moredun’. Lothian Buses withdrew several services across the city due to the antisocial behaviour.

Police officers clashed with large groups throwing fireworks, bottles and bricks and emergency service vehicles and cars. Police Scotland said the force responded to 18 incidents on Tuesday evening as part of Operation Moonbeam. Police said they had responded to “youth disorder” in the Niddrie, Sighthill and Moredun areas of Edinburgh.

Officers have been given powers to help prevent disorder during a Bonfire Night which has seen fireworks thrown at police.
