Alex Call slid home with the tiebreaking run on Andy Pages’ sacrifice fly off Mason Miller in the ninth inning, and the Los Angeles Dodgers hung on for a 5-4 victory over the San Diego Padres.
Mason Miller’s command was just a little too wild Tuesday night. Both to the plate, and to first base. With the Dodgers and Padres tied in the ninth inning at Petco Park, San Diego’s superstar closer made a mess for himself to blow his first game of the season.
The score was tied going into the ninth, but an ABS overturn gave the Dodgers a walk, an error put pinch-runner Alex Call in scoring position and Andy Pages came through with a sacrifice fly to drive in the go-ahead run in a 5-4 victory.
Andy Pages dug in against Mason Miller and refused to give in. The Dodgers’ young slugger fouled off three triple-digit fastballs and three 87 mph sliders from San Diego’s peerless closer in an epic at-bat.
