Don Lemon quoted the Bible and cast himself as a persecuted journalist after his arrest on federal charges tied to an anti-ICE protest that disrupted services at a Minnesota church.
Don Lemon was taken into custody by federal agents in Los Angeles, where he had been covering the Grammy Awards, his attorney said.
Federal agents arrested independent journalists Don Lemon and Georgia Fort for covering a protest at Cities Church in St. Paul, where a pastor is also an official with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement.
Lemon, a former CNN anchor, has argued he was exercising his First Amendment rights as a journalist during the protest at a church in St. Paul, Minn.
Don Lemon has said he was reporting on the protest as a journalist. His lawyer called the arrest an "attack on the First Amendment."
"We didn't go into the church to do anything illegal. We didn't intend to do anything illegal, nor did we do anything illegal. That's why you don't hear any allegations of violence," said civil rights attorney and ordained minister Nekima Levy-Armstrong.
Anti-ICE demonstrations are expected across the country today, including a student walkout in New York City and a protest in Minneapolis following the killings of Renee Good and Alex Pretti.
