In a reversal, the National Park Service removed fencing around Dupont Circle Park and opened it to the public. Before sundown, two people were stabbed and one was shot.
Dupont Circle will be open to visitors the weekend of the WorldPride D.C. parade after all. It’s the latest update in a weeklong back-and-forth over whether the historic neighborhood would be open for Pride Month’s biggest weekend in the District.
City authorities canceled an initial request to block off the site, an L.G.B.T.Q. gathering spot in Washington, D.C. But the National Park Service opted to close it.
The victims are expected to survive, police said. The violence came after Dupont Circle Park was reopened for Pride at the request of the D.C. government.
