A police manhunt is underway in Minnesota after two Democratic lawmakers and their spouses were shot overnight in a "politically motivated assassination," Gov. Tim Walz told reporters Saturday.

Minnesota state Rep. Melissa Hortman and her husband were killed, and state Sen. John Hoffman and his wife were wounded in politically motivated shootings overnight, Gov. Tim Walz said Saturday. Authorities have also identified a suspect who is still at large.

In a separate attack, Democratic state Sen. John Hoffman and his wife, Yvette, were shot multiple times, but are now “out of surgery and receiving care,” Walz told reporters during a press conference on Saturday, stating he was “cautiously optimistic they will survive this assassination attempt.”
