New York City is poised for a wintry glow-up overnight, with several inches of snow forecast to fall across the five boroughs as Christmas draws ever near.
A fast-moving low-pressure system will bring snow to New York, New Jersey, and Connecticut, according to the National Weather Service. Tracking the snowfall, a timeline: Prepartions The Department of Sanitation has already begun pre-treating roads with brine and has more than 700 salt spreaders ready to deploy when the storm starts.
And while snow may begin to fall on the city as early as 7 p.m. Saturday, the steadiest snowfall is expected to come down in the overnight hours. At some point before 10 a.m. Sunday, snowfall rates are likely to reach half an inch per hour before 10 a.m. Sunday, according to the weather service.

NYC's Dept. of Sanitation issues snow alert for this weekend
NEW YORK - New York City's Department of Sanitation issued a snow alert for from tomorrow, Dec. 13, to Sunday, Dec. 14. Parts of New York City, Long Island and New Jersey could see up to 4 inches of snow, according to the National Weather Service. The Department of Sanitation issued the alert from 7 p.m. on Dec. 13 into 2 p.m. on Dec. 14.

Temperatures will stay firmly in winter territory in the days that follow. Highs on Sunday are expected to top out in the low- to mid-30s — about 10 degrees below normal. Conditions will be even colder Monday, with highs hovering around 30 degrees. Forecasters say temperatures will feel like they're in the teens both days.
