More than 50,000 PGE customers had no power on Wednesday afternoon after winds blasted through Oregon overnight.
A power outage along Colorado's Front Range began at 10 a.m. Wednesday and was expected to impact about 50,000 Xcel Energy customers.
Xcel’s planned public safety power stoppages collided with wind-related electricity outages around the Front Range on Wednesday, leaving tens of thousands without power.
Nearly 15,000 residences in and around Corvallis, Salem, Lebanon and Sweet Home also lost power. There are also spotty outages in other parts of the state, including about 400 in Portland. The Astoria, Warrenton-Hammond, Jewell and Seaside school districts have canceled Wednesday classes due to the power outages.
The sparkling display that draws thousands of visitors to the Bavarian-themed town each season is back after a mass outage canceled festivities last weekend.
A map, produced by PowerOutage—which collects power outage data from over 1,000 utility companies across the world, every 10 minutes—has identified that, at the time of publishing, over half a million people have been left without power in the U.S. as winter weather strikes, downing trees, snapping power lines, and causing widespread outages.
According to the Clark Public Utilities online outage map, 79,745 customers were without power as of 5 a.m. The map also showed that 18,229 people recently had power restored.
Water pressure is back to normal in Independence after a power outage disrupted service. Officials say foul play is not suspected, but the cause is still under investigation.
