The Detroit Red Wings are two weeks into Todd McLellan's reign as head coach, and so far, the vibes, as Marco Kasper put it, are good.

DETROIT – Todd McLellan has been back in Detroit for two weeks, but he’s thinking about Southern California these days. Wildfires have ravaged the Los Angeles-area destroying thousands of homes and forcing tens of thousands to evacuate. McLellan coached the Los Angeles Kings from 2019-20 until midway through last season.

Patrick Kane scored in overtime to lift the Wings past the Ottawa Senators on Tuesday, kicking off a four-game stand at Little Caesars Arena with a 3-2 victory. The Wings (18-18-4) won their fifth straight game and reached 40 points, but the Senators remained a point ahead at 41.

The Wings showed their resilience after giving up a goal during a penalty kill late in the second period to fall behind by a goal, just like they did last week in Columbus, when the Blue Jackets dinged them for a pair of goals late in the second period. It's a vital part of why the Wings have resuscitated their season.
