Texas House Speaker Dustin Burrows has said the chamber will reconvene at 2 p.m. ET (1 p.m. CT) to move ahead with legislative business, including redistricting.

Texas Democrats again defied Republican Gov. Greg Abbott and the state GOP and did not show up Friday for a vote on a controversial redistricting plan proposed by Republicans. The GOP-proposed new congressional maps that would give Republicans more seats in Congress -- potentially allowing the GOP to keep control of the U.

Texas Democrats may have bought their party some time with their walkout, but both parties are mobilizing to redraw U.S. House maps ahead of the midterms.

Vice President JD Vance is in the Indiana Statehouse Thursday to meet with Gov. Mike Braun and others to push the state to redraw congressional districts.

Redistricting will be among the topics Vice President JD Vance will discuss Aug. 7, 2025 with the governor and legislative leaders.
