Arctic blast cold-stuns iguanas in Florida during record-setting temperature plunge
A frozen iguana was spotted in Boca Raton, Florida Tuesday, as the coldest air of the season spread across the eastern U.S., setting several low temperatures across the Sunshine State.
An arctic train of Canadian air blasted into the Naples area late Monday, causing overall temperatures to drop more than 30 degrees.
Some daily records were “absolutely shattered,” said meteorologist Scott Kleebauer, including a low of 28 degrees Fahrenheit (-2 Celsius) at the airport in Jacksonville, Florida, on Tuesday morning. That broke the previous record low of 35 degrees set in 1977.
“After a seasonably cool afternoon with highs in the upper-40s to mid-50s, temperatures will take quite the tumble tonight with lows dropping into the upper 20s and low-30s!,” the National Weather Service said early Monday. “Add in the wind and minimum wind chill values will crater into the upper-teens to low-20s!”
