With a starting price of about $45,000 when new, the BMW i3 was the company’s first mass-produced all-electric car, selling over 250,000 units worldwide during its nine-year stint.

BMW will cease production of the i8 sometime in April this year, making way for the marque’s upcoming line of all electric battery-powered electric vehicles (EVs), Autocar reports.

BMW’s Leipzig, Germany, factory began making the final evolution of the i8, a limited-edition model named Ultimate Sophisto, in 2019. Production is scheduled to end in April 2020.

BMW has thus sold more than 20,000 units since the i8 hit dealerships in 2014, compared to the seven-figure P1's production cap of 375 cars. That makes it the best-selling car of its kind ...
