Connor McDavid is about to play for Team Canada in an international tournament for the first time in his NHL career, finally giving him the chance to play with Sidney Crosby.

McDavid did play in the 2016 World Cup of Hockey, but on an under-23 North American squad rather than for Team Canada. He captained a high-flying collection of the game’s preeminent talents like Nathan MacKinnon, Auston Matthews, Jack Eichel and the late Johnny Gaudreau.

When they’re together in Edmonton, they’re allies. But over the next week and a half, Oilers teammates Connor McDavid and Mattias Ekholm will be anything but.

To no one's surprise, Edmonton Oilers captain Connor McDavid centres the first line. McDavid is joined by two elite two-way wingers in Mitch Marner and Sam Reinhart, with Marner providing skill and playmaking while Reinhart fills a Zach Hyman -type scoring role on McDavid's wing.

Marner is one of four Maple Leafs selected for the tournament, joining Auston Matthews (USA) and William Nylander ( (Sweden). Although Jani Hakanpaa was selected to be on Finland's roster, the Leafs already announced that the defenseman wasn't healthy enough to play due to an ongoing knee issue.
