A death row inmate who suffers from dementia, brain damage and heart failure has filed a petition with the U.S. Supreme court.

An eighth death warrant is still being contested in the courts. The denial of killer Thomas Gudinas’ last-resort appeal marked the court’s 140th consecutive ruling against a death row inmate.

In 2021, Sherwood Brown, who spent 26 years on death row, was released from prison after charges against him were dismissed. He was convicted of a triple homicide in DeSoto County in 1995.
