The parent company of the Australian-themed casual dining chain is in the midst of a turnaround effort, resulting in a smaller footprint.
The casual dining giant Outback Steakhouse has made sweeping, sudden changes to its restaurant footprint after shuttering 21 restaurants in October. The abrupt closures are a direct result of the parent company, Bloomin’ Brands, announcing a “comprehensive turnaround strategy” in its third-quarter earnings report.
Outback Steakhouse abruptly closed 21 of its restaurants across the country in October as part of a sweeping cost-cutting plan by its parent company, Bloomin’ Brands. The Tampa-based restaurant operator known for its kitschy Australian theme said in an earnings filing Thursday that the closures mark the start of a “comprehensive turnaround strategy” that will see 22 more Outback locations close over the next four years as leases expire.
Other Outback restaurants currently open in Sarasota-Manatee include two on Cortez Road and State Road 64 East in Bradenton, one by the intersection of Lockwood Ridge Road and University Parkway, and one on South Tamiami Trail in Venice. A Sarasota Outback that had been open for decades, also on South Tamiami Trail, permanently closed last year.
The popular Outback Steakhouse chain has shut down 21 restaurants, like the one in Green Brook, New Jersey, in a bid to reshape its future amid declining numbers.
Bloomin’ Brands plans to improve steak quality, service and atmosphere at the struggling casual-dining chain. It’s also closing more
Outback Steakhouse, the Australian-themed eatery with multiple locations across Long Island, has closed its Merrick location, joining a growing list of casual restaurant chains struggling with changing customer habits and rising costs.
The turnaround will touch everything from steak quality to marketing, and the cost will be partly offset by productivity investments.
