Charlie Woods could be headed to the U.S. Open — just not as a player. Miles Russell, a 17-year-old amateur and close friend of Woods, earned a spot in the 126th U.S. Open on Monday after surviving a playoff at the Florida qualifier with Tiger Woods’ son serving as his caddie.

Last year, Chase Kyes won the Alabama High School Athletic Association Class 6A boys’ golf championship. This year, Kyes will play in the U.S. Open. The former Spain Park High School standout was among the survivors of “golf’s longest day” who earned spots in next week’s major-championship tournament.

Current Ohio State golfer Vaughn Harber and former OSU golfer Neal Shipley both qualified for the 2026 U.S. Open.
