Mikayla Blakes has set records in her freshman season with Vanderbilt women's basketball by choosing her own path and remaining guided by family.

The Commodores (19-7, 6-6 SEC) have struggled somewhat against the upper echelon of the SEC, but they have won the games they're supposed to win and are guided by freshman sensation Mikayla Blakes, who has two 50-point games this season and recently broke her own SEC record with a 55-point performance in an overtime win at Auburn on Thursday.

Mikayla Blakes is The Associated Press women's college basketball player of the week. The freshman guard set the NCAA freshman single-game scoring record with 55 points against Auburn.
