The National Weather Service is forecasting the likelihood of a major winter storm and near record cold temperatures Saturday and Sunday. The cold is expected to linger into next week. Luis Rosa, a meteorologist at the weather service's regional office in Sterling, said on Tuesday that it's too soon to forecast precise snowfall totals.

Lots of sunshine today with highs in the upper 30s. Warming to the 40s tomorrow and into the 50s on Thursday. Significant snow and ice risk Saturday to Sunday.
