Colorado State University has released its April forecast for the 2025 Atlantic hurricane season. According to the forecast, Colorado State University is calling for an above-average hurricane season with 17 named storms. The forecast predicts nine hurricanes, and four major hurricanes.

Colorado State researchers said there's a 51% chance of a major hurricane making landfall somewhere along the U.S. coastline. The average, based on records from 1880 to 2020, is 43%. A major hurricane has wind speeds of at least 111 mph. The chances for a landfall are greater along the Gulf Coast (33%) than the East Coast (26%).

Here are the names for the 2025 hurricane season that is listed below for this year. This was the list that was used in the 2019 season. Most of the names remained, minus Hurricane Dorian, which was retired. Dorian cost an estimated 3.4 billion in damage in the Bahamas. This year, the National Hurricane Center and NOAA replaced it with Dexter.
