In a surprise decision, Wilson and the rest of the Giants’ healthy first-teamers will start Saturday in the preseason opener against the Bills at 1 p.m. Head coach Brian Daboll had refused to reveal his plan before Thursday’s backups-heavy walk-through practice.

It took one half of their preseason debuts for Russell Wilson and Jaxson Dart to provide promising glimpses into the New York Giants’ present and future in a 34-25 win over the Buffalo Bills on Saturday.

Wilson has looked uneven through 12 training camp practice. It’s obvious (as if it wasn’t already) that he is a fading veteran. Yet at least for Saturday afternoon — when he started and played one drive in the Giants’ preseason opener at the Bills — Wilson looked steady and competent.
