First Steps" captured $218 million in its box office debut while "Superman" and "F1" crossed major milestones.

“The Fantastic Four: First Steps” grossed $118 million at the domestic box office over the weekend—largely meeting earlier projections, but still placing it behind “Superman” for the biggest superhero film opening of 2025 so far.

According to EntTelligence, while metro centers with populations over 1M overperformed on Fantastic Four: First Steps, rural and suburban areas (where families live) under performed on average -13%. Also,

Superman, now in its third week of play, added an estimated $44.6m worldwide at the weekend, taking the total to $502.7m. Apple Original Films’ F1, which is distributed by Warner Bros, added an estimated $26.2m, and the total is $509.7m.

That might sound like no big deal, but after 2023’s “The Marvels,” this spring’s fourth “Captain America” movie and “Thunderbolts*” all underperformed by Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) standards, the new “Fantastic Four” may offer broader audience appeal by not pulling from other franchises.
