OXFORD — Coach Chris Beard is not leaving Ole Miss basketball for familiar territory. Beard, who has been the coach at Ole Miss for two seasons, is not taking a job coaching at Texas A&M, On3 reported Wednesday. The opening in College Station was created when Buzz Williams left to become coach at Maryland.
However, Beard opted to stay with the Rebels. Beard’s name came up early and often in Texas A&M’s search, and he had discussions with the Aggies about the role, but he will ultimately return to Oxford for a third season. ESPN’s Pete Thamel reported that Ole Miss is set to give Beard a raise and the NIL resources he needs to build an SEC contender.
