A Complete Unknown, directed by James Mangold, has earned eight Academy Award nominations, including best picture. After the compilation video, Chalamet was set to practice an acceptance speech — only to be interrupted by SNL cast member Kenan Thompson, who humorously took the faux award for himself.

The fact that host Timothée Chalamet just earned an Oscar nomination for his role as Bob Dylan in “A Complete Unknown” raised the possibility, however slim, that Minnesota’s most celebrated artist might appear on the late-night show for only the second time in its 50-year history.

Later in the show, Chalamet returned for a moody rendition of Tomorrow Is a Long Time, which Dylan originally performed live in the 60s before it finally appeared on Bob Dylan’s Greatest Hits Vol. II in 1971.
