Penn State officially has its man at defensive coordinator. The Nittany Lions officially announced the hiring of Jim Knowles from Ohio State on Monday morning, completing the poaching of one of the nation's top defensive play callers.

Knowles would fill the void on Penn State’s staff left by Tom Allen, who accepted the same position with Clemson earlier this month.

Knowles becomes James Franklin’s third defensive coordinator in four seasons. Manny Diaz left after the 2023 season to become the head coach at Duke following a two-year stint in Happy Valley. Allen was hired after a lengthy run as the head coach at Indiana and left after helping Penn State to the College Football Playoff semifinals.
