Mike Eruzione was Team USA’s honorary captain and hyped up the TD Garden crowd wearing a Johnny Gaudreau Team USA jersey ahead of the NHL 4 Nations Face-Off championship game. Eruzione, best known as being the captain for Team USA during the 1980 Winter Olympics in which the Americans defeated the Soviet Union in the famous “Miracle on Ice” game.

That improbable 4-3 victory on Feb. 22, 1980, became known as the "Miracle on Ice," because of the call by broadcaster Al Michaels, who screamed: "Do you believe in miracles? Yes!" as the final seconds evaporated.

There is a major parallel between the current 4 Nations Face-Off championship game and the 1980 U.S. Olympic hockey team's gold medal performance.

Jack O’Callahan, and several of his 1980 “Miracle on Ice” teammates were sitting in a Washington, D.C., bar 29 years ago when the United States beat Canada in the final game of the 1996 World Cup of Hockey.
