A Texas judge blocked deportations of anyone held in a south Texas detention facility who may be removed under the wartime law, and a New York judge planned a similar order.

The judges ruled detainees accused of gang affiliations must be granted a hearing to prove otherwise before being deported.

The pair of rulings didn’t address the legality of President Donald Trump’s use of the Alien Enemies Act to deport Venezuelans accused of belonging to the Tren de Aragua gang, and they only applied to immigrants in federal custody in the judges’ judicial districts.
