Thurman died in 2022 after waiting 20 hours at a hospital to get treatment for a rare complication from taking an abortion pill.

The state Supreme Court has overruled the judge before on abortion. But as long as abortion after the six-week mark is allowed, it could ease access for women in Georgia, Florida and other Southern states.

A Georgia judge on Monday struck down the state’s abortion law, which took effect in 2022 and effectively prohibited abortions beyond about six weeks of pregnancy.
