Walt Disney is investing $1 billion in OpenAI and will let the startup use characters from Star Wars, Pixar and Marvel franchises in its Sora AI video generator, a deal that could reshape how Hollywood makes content.
OpenAI CEO Sam Altman said the company is partnering with Disney to enhance Sora and AI image generation, calling the collaboration a step toward unlocking new creative possibilities for users.
OpenAI has claimed that it built and shipped the Sora Android app in just 28 days, relying heavily on its AI coding agent, Codex. The company said the initial production version of Sora for Android was developed between October 8 and November 5, 2025, by a four-engineer team working alongside Codex and consuming “roughly 5 billion tokens.”
Apps like OpenAI’s Sora are fooling millions of users into thinking A.I. videos are real, even when they include warning labels.
