Much of Western North Carolina saw very little accumulation of precipitation during the winter storm, with some areas not receiving snow or sleet at all. Here are some precipitation totals for the storm from the National Weather Service: Asheville area - .46 inches freezing rain .12 inches sleet
Snow, ice and other wintry precipitation hit Western North Carolina over the weekendof Saturday, Jan. 24, and into Sunday. Jan. 25, leaving more than 10,000 still without power.
The National Weather Service predicts that heaviest accumulations in Western N.C. will be in the mountains near the Tennessee border, including Buncombe and northern Jackson counties. Snow and sleet accumulations of up to 2 inches and ice accumulations of around 1 inch are expected.
