Thousands of employees at federal public health agencies will reportedly be fired Friday, as the Trump administration continues to carry out mass layoffs at various federal agencies amid large-scale budget-cutting efforts.

The job cuts are being imposed unilaterally, without the approval of Congress to shrink or overhaul federal agencies.

By this afternoon, the scope of the layoffs was becoming clearer. More than 1,000 workers were terminated at the Department of Veterans Affairs and about 1,000 more were let go at the Energy Department.
