A 7.0 magnitude earthquake struck off the coast of Tonga early Monday. The island nation felt six aftershocks but did not immediately report damage.

A tsunami warning has been cancelled in Tonga after a magnitude 7.0 earthquake struck the Pacific Island kingdom in the early hours of Sunday.

The German Research Centre for Geosciences said a magnitude 7 earthquake struck Tonga on Sunday. The quake was said to be at a depth of 10 km. According to the US Geological Survey, USGS, the quake occurred about 100 kilometres northeast of Tonga’s main island.
