Police will use stop and search powers in certain areas of Edinburgh in a bid to intercept planned disorder on Bonfire Night.The force warned those suspected of planning firework-related anti-social behaviour in the Gracemount,

Police officers clashed with large groups throwing fireworks, bottles and bricks and emergency service vehicles and cars. Police Scotland said the force responded to 18 incidents on Tuesday evening as part of Operation Moonbeam. Police said they had responded to “youth disorder” in the Niddrie, Sighthill and Moredun areas of Edinburgh.

Eyewitness reports came after police confirmed officers are executing stop and search orders in three Edinburgh communities on November 5 - Niddrie, Moredun and Gracemount.

Officers have been given powers to help prevent disorder during a Bonfire Night which has seen fireworks thrown at police.

Shortly before 9.30pm, a line of riot cops in helmets and brandishing shields is understood to have come under fire from fireworks thugs who then fled into the scheme.
