Despite the heavy 80% duties on Chinese batteries, the largest American automaker, General Motors (GM), will continue to import and use them in its vehicles. The American car manufacturing giant insists that it will still follow through with its plans to create affordable access to electric vehicles.

General Motors will import electric vehicle batteries from Chinese battery giant CATL , a source familiar with the matter told Reuters on Thursday.

GM will import Chinese LFP batteries for electric vehicles as a temporary measure as it prepares to produce this battery chemistry in the United States.
