Galopin Des Champs has been denied a third straight win in horse racing’s Cheltenham Gold Cup after he was beaten by Inothewayurthinkin in the prestigious jumps race in England.

Inothewayurthinkin, who was sent off at 15-2, caused a shock by lowering the colours of 8-13 favourite Galopin Des Champs in the festival's most prestigious race. A late contender for the Gold Cup, he vindicated the decision of his connections to supplement him at a cost of £25,000.

Inothewayurthinkin won the Cheltenham Gold Cup as Galopin Des Champs was denied a historic hat-trick. The 15-2 winner, ridden by Mark Walsh for trainer Gavin Cromwell and owner JP McManus, charged clear up the hill to beat the gallant two-time victor by six lengths, with Gentlemansgame in third.

So, not only has Willie Mullins won the first four races of the day, won the leading trainer gong again and matched his record of 10 wins at the Festival, he’s about to go for a dollop of history in the Gold Cup. As weeks go, that’s half decent.

General admission for the Gold Cup has sold out, with nearly 70,000 spectators gathered at Prestbury Park. The total attendance for the week is still expected to pass 200,000 but will be significantly down on the record 280,
