A long-awaited resentencing hearing for Lyle and Erik Menendez ground to a halt Thursday just hours after attorneys arrived at the courthouse in Van Nuys, partly over a risk assessment report on the brothers that was was not intended for this week's court proceeding.

The Beverly Hills home where the Menendez brothers shot their parents dead in 1996 is in the midst of major renovations—even as incarcerated siblings Erik and Lyle Menendez are due to make a bid for freedom at a resentencing hearing in Los Angeles.

Brothers Erik and Lyle Menendez, jailed for life for the 1989 murders of their parents in Beverly Hills, are set to be given a hearing on Thursday to determine whether they may be eligible for a lesser sentence and a path to parole after more than three decades behind bars.
