Fireworks, objects and missiles were aimed at the public, officers and traffic with chaos breaking out in Niddrie, Calder Road, Gracemount and Moredun - terrifying locals.

Riot police with shields have been seen forming barriers in the Edinburgh neighbourhood of Niddrie after cars were attacked by youths throwing fireworks. Specialist officers have been supporting local officers through the night with riot cops now pictured arrving at the scene in Niddrie this evening.

Police are stationed on Niddrie Mains Road and Hay Drive in the capital, where disorder has erupted in previous years.

Officers have been given powers to help prevent disorder during a Bonfire Night which has seen fireworks thrown at police.
