An immigration judge in Louisiana ordered the federal government to provide evidence by Wednesday justifying its attempted deportation of a Columbia University student activist.

Louisiana Judge Jamee Comans gave Trump's admin just 24 hours to produce evidence that activist Mahmoud Khalil should be deported.

In a two-page memo from Secretary of State Marco Rubio obtained by the Associated Press, the government alleged that keeping Khalil in the country would undermine “U.S. policy to combat anti-Semitism around the world and in the United States, in addition to efforts to protect Jewish students from harassment and violence in the United States.”

Lawyers for Mahmoud Khalil says the Trump administration has met its deadline to submit evidence for his deportation case.

Khalil has been held in a remote detention facility in Louisiana since his March 8 arrest by federal immigration authorities.

A Louisiana immigration judge said if the evidence doesn’t support Khalil’s deportation, she would “terminate the case on Friday.”
