A Washington state resident has bird flu, and it's a different type than what was seen in previous infections, state health officials said Friday. It is the nation’s first human case of bird flu since February.

A Washington resident has been hospitalized with a different strain of bird flu than those seen in past cases, state health officials announced Friday.

It follows a "sharp increase" of cases of kept and wild birds with Wales now facing a "very high level" of avian flu risk.
