Over the summer, cases of EEE spread across New Hampshire, Massachusetts, and other New England states, each also breaking records for the region.

Since Aug. 7, 16 Suffolk residents have tested positive for West Nile, the second highest number of human cases in a single year since the county began reporting cases in 2000, the county said.

At least 10 EEE cases have been reported across the country this year, with one death confirmed in New Hampshire. Besides EEE, dengue fever and West Nile virus are the most common mosquito-borne diseases in the US.

West Nile Virus is a nasty infection that can result in flu-like symptoms in humans. Headaches, high fever, stiffness of the neck and muscle soreness could all come as a result of catching the virus.

The Champaign-Urbana Public Health District reports the affected person is a resident of Champaign, in their 60s, who tested positive for the infection in September.

Connecticut officials say residents should take steps to prevent mosquito bites because of West Nile Virus and EEE until the first hard frost.

A second person in Denton County died this year from the West Nile virus, officials said. Three other additional cases were reported.
