Yolanda Saldivar was convicted for the murder of singer Selena and sentenced to life in prison with the possibility of parole in 30 years in 1995. The Texas Board of Pardons and Parole told PEOPLE on Thursday the reason her parole was denied.

Selena Quintanilla's family is speaking out after her killer, Yolanda Saldívar, was denied parole on Thursday.
Yolanda Saldívar was denied parole, the Texas Board of Pardons and Paroles confirmed in a statement posted to their webpage.
A parole review date for Saldívar, who is incarcerated at a prison in Gatesville according to the Texas Department of Criminal Justice’s online records, is set for March 30. The date coincides closely with the 30th anniversary of the singer’s death: Quintanilla-Pérez was killed on March 31, 1995.
