Tchaikovsky's masterpiece has been the adotped anthem of summertime in the U.S. for decades, but you usually don't get this viewpoint of the work's finale by the Presidential Salute Battery from the 3d U.S. Infantry Regiment (The Old Guard). The Fort Huachuca Honor Guard tuned up July 1, for their performance in the 1812 Overture at the Sierra Vista, Arizona Independence Day Celebration July 4. It's a signature component of our community's #July4th observance. A total of 16 cannon shots are written into the score of Tchaikovsky's 1812 Overture. The piece was written in 1880 to commemorate the successful Russian Defense against Napoleon's invading Grande Armée in 1812. | U.S. Army Fort Huachuca
