On this day in 1880, composer Enest Bloch was born in Geneva Switzerland. Often reflecting his Jewish faith in his music, Bloch was an important influence on Leonard Bernstein, particularly in his Symphony No. 1: Jeremiah. Bernstein led a performance of Bloch's "Three Jewish Poems" on a broadcast New York Philharmonic concert the week after his famous debut in November 1943.
