Troy Kotsur became the first deaf man to win an acting Oscar when he received Best Supporting Actor for CODA at the 94th Academy Awards in 2022. He signed his acceptance speech in American Sign Language. CODA also made history as the first film with a predominantly deaf cast to win Best Picture.
