The Great Pacific Garbage Patch is a growing area in the ocean located halfway between #Hawaii and #California. It contains an estimated 1.8 trillion pieces of plastic. Ocean Voyages Institute is a California non-profit organization that hopes to remove some of that plastic. They took a ship called Kwai to “fish” for garbage. On a 45-day mission out to sea, Kwai picked up 96 tons of waste from the Pacific Ocean. Most of it was single-use plastics like toothbrushes that people use everyday. | Ins
