The County of Los Angeles Fire Department’s Urban Search and Rescue team, known internationally as USA-2 has been activated by the U.S. Department of State to respond to Jamaica in wake of Hurricane Melissa. USA-2 is comprised of 34 members, 4 canines and 42,000 pounds of equipment. They are joining the Fairfax County Fire Department’s USAR team, USA-1, to provide search, rescue and recovery assistance. Our thoughts and prayers go out to all affected by the devastation left by Hurricane Melissa.

LAFD HISTORY: 44 Years Ago Today On January 28, 1981, Apparatus Operator Thomas Taylor was killed in the line of duty during a roof collapse at the Cugee's Restaurant structure fire. AO Taylor's locker at Fire Station 60 remains untouched and the crew continue a special bond with his extended family - even though many members were not yet born when he died. As Captain (Ret) Michael Reagan (who was seriously injured in the roof collapse) says best, it is in the DNA of Fire Station 60. This video

SYLMAR - On June 14-16, 2021 the Los Angeles Fire Department organized a multi-agency brush fire exercise near Veterans Memorial Park in Sylmar. Participants included Fire Departments from the cities of Burbank, Glendale, Los Angeles, Pasadena, the County of Los Angeles and Angeles National Forest, as these agencies frequently respond together along and near their jurisdictional borders in what are known as Mutual Threat Zones (MTZs).
